Dubai Metro
The Dubai Metro is the latest travel option in the city of Dubai - the longest unmanned metro system in the world. The metro stations are built in keeping with the modernistic approach of the city of Dubai. A total of 10 stations (in the initial stage) at strategic positions and a train running every 10 minutes makes mall hopping a lot easier especially during DSF. The RTA (Road Transport Authority) has installed information platforms in the form of LCD monitors in popular places in Dubai to make information on Dubai Metro accessible.
The bogies are spotlessly clean as eating or drinking is not allowed. A total of 3,000 CCTV cameras confirm the maximum security standards adopted by the authorities. The sleek stations also have small food outlets for those who want to get a quick bite, coffee machines to ensure a refreshing journey and ATMs at strategic locations. The metro is at your disposal from 6am to11pm, Saturday to Thursday, and from 2pm till midnight on Fridays. During peak hours the trains will run every three minutes and 45 seconds.
The best way to travel in the Dubai Metro is to get a rechargeable NOL card. You can choose from silver, blue, gold and red cards. The Silver card is for the frequent traveler. The cost is Dhs 20, with 14 Dhs as credit. Blue card costs 70 Dhs, including a credit of 20 Dhs. This card is targeted at those who look for loyalty programs and online services. Buying a Gold card gives you the extra comfort of carpeted gold class carriages with leather seats. Red cards are for single round trips. Once you get your choice of card, you can enjoy the speed and comfort of the Dubai Metro. It is cost effective as each individual journey is priced as less as Dhs 1.80 to Dhs 5.80. But above all it saves you the headache of being stuck in traffic, while you’re rather be stuck in a mall, doing what you love most.
