Abra Service
Dubai city is divided into two parts by the Dubai Creek - Deira and Bur Dubai. Today there are bridges and an underground tunnel to go from one area to the other. In the olden days however, people used the Abra, a wooden boat to go from one bank of the Dubai creek to the other.
Even today people use this humble yet beautiful mode of transport. An Abra transports around 20 people for a minimal fare of one Dirham per person to one of the four stations, Bur Dubai Souq, Old Deira Souq, Al Sabka and New Baniyas station. The Abra ride is highly recommended for visitors who want to experience traditional Dubai. You can even enjoy a group trip when you hire an entire Abra for around 20 Dhs.
Try and get a seat on the evening trips when the city comes into its full glory. The shimmering reflection of myriad lights on the calm creek, the old world styled Abras pacing the water at a soothing pace, warm weather, delicious aromas wafting from the many mini eateries dotting the creek side – it’s a sight to behold.
